Telemarketeer Calls Back!!![From the funny story Archives]

Saturday, March 1, 2003

Friday eve February 28 at around 6:30, a telemarketeer phoned my parents house. My mom answered and heard, "Hi! I have great news for you from Phoenix, Arizona!"
Since she was trying to get ready for a hot date with my padre (my dad not a priest), she hung up the telephone. Apparently she was not interested in great news.
Then, the phone rings again. She hands me, Josh Cole, the phone. I says, "Hello!"
He says," You should tell your wife that it's rude to hang up on people."
I says back, "You should tell yourself it's rude to call during dinner time." We weren't really eating dinner, but that IS when those telemarketeers like to call. And for the record I'm not married to my mom.
He replies, "How am I supposed to know that it's dinner time."
I says, "Did I ask you to call me?"
"Yes, you did," he says, "when you signed up for a credit card."
"Well I thought we signed up for a 'don't call list' that just became law in Massachusetts." At this point I think I was a few hours off. The law wasn't enacted until March 1, but he didn't know that.
I says, "Can I have your name and information please?"
He says, "You don't need that. It's not important!"
I says, "Well aren't you an individual calling our house?"
"No, I'm not!"
"Then I guess it is okay to hang up on you." I was really proud of this argumentation.
He says, " I guess so." And then, he hung up on me! What I'm wondering is...what was the great news that made this persistent telemarketeer hang up on me? What bad manners he must have.
